Recovery is Always Within Reach. Therapy for Eating, Weight & Mood Disorders.

We provide in-person therapy in Northbrook and Chicago, with telehealth therapy available throughout Illinois.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Adults

Our hybrid IOP is designed for adults navigating the unique challenges of early, mid, and later adulthood including mood and anxiety disorders, eating concerns, and life transitions such as peri- and post-menopause, divorce, empty nesting, career challenges, grief, and loss. We are CARF accredited, which means we are dedicated to the highest standards of care, safety, and continuous quality improvement. Learn More

Mental Health Support for Clients Considering or Taking GLP-1 Medications

We are a size-inclusive practice with deep experience supporting patients across the weight spectrum. We offer innovative, evidence-based mental and behavioral health support with an approach that is affirming, compassionate, and non-judgmental. While GLP-1s address biological factors, we provide individualized psychological support for emotional growth and lasting behavioral change. With a shared commitment to whole-person well-being, SpringSource is pleased to highlight Activation Fitness, a trusted North Shore collaborator offering thoughtful, individualized strength training to gently support the emotional care you receive with us.

A Note from Our Founders: Dr. Susan McClanahan and Dr. Angela Derrick

We founded SpringSource: Eating, Weight & Mood Disorders in 2020 with a shared vision to create a collaborative, compassionate space where adults can heal and grow through every stage of life.

Our work is rooted in decades of clinical leadership and innovation. Together, we have built and led nationally recognized eating disorder and mood disorder programs, developed new models of intensive outpatient care, and trained hundreds of clinicians across the country.

At SpringSource, we have combined that expertise with a boutique, individually tailored, relational developmental approach. Whether through individual therapy or our hybrid Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), our goal remains the same: to help individuals develop the insight, skills, and resilience to reach their potential and to know that recovery is always within reach.

What Our Colleagues Are Saying

“I have had the privilege of knowing and collaborating with the clinicians at SpringSource for many years, and I hold their work in the highest professional regard.

SpringSource combines deep clinical expertise with genuine warmth and integrity. Their team brings exceptional skill to the treatment of eating disorders, mood disorders, and the complex emotional patterns that accompany them. They are especially adept at working with the intersection of food, body image, and emotional health.

As a fellow clinician, I refer to SpringSource with complete confidence. I know my patients will receive thoughtful, evidence-based, and compassionate care.”

Jennifer Calliss, LCPC – Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Northbrook, IL

“These two women lead with grace and humility. I remember meeting them for the first time more than 10 years ago during an interview and recall thinking, I really want to work with these tremendously gifted clinicians. I could learn so much from both of them. Since then, I have ‘grown up’ professionally under their wings and still (after all this time) wake up every day feeling profound gratitude for their mentorship.”

Dr. Andi Stone, PsyD – Clinical Psychologist, Chicago, Illinois

“To be an effective therapist requires having one of these three qualities: a natural ability to be empathic, warm, and insightful; a profound understanding of the inner life of complicated human beings; and knowledge, gained from top-quality training, of the best techniques and approaches. A few, really exceptional therapists have all of these qualities. Angela Derrick and Susan McClanahan are among those few.  I can speak with confidence of their professional and personal excellence from having known them well for more than 15 years.”

James W. Anderson, Ph.D. – Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois

“I have known Dr. Derrick and Dr. McClanahan for 15 years, and had the pleasure of working with them as colleagues, as well as referring patients to each of them over the years. Dr. Derrick and Dr. McClanahan are collaborative, compassionate, highly knowledgeable and exceptionally skilled psychologists who have always been a trusted referral option. I look forward to continuing to refer to each of them as I trust them to provide exceptional patient care.”

Anne Kubal, Ph.D. – Clinical Psychologist
