James C. Merritt Jr., MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, MBA, is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner providing psychiatric evaluations and medication management for adolescents, adults and older adults at SpringSource.

James brings more than 20 years of nursing and healthcare leadership experience to his work. His background includes inpatient psychiatry, outpatient and telehealth care, and intensive behavioral health settings. His clinical training includes psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis, psychopharmacology, medication management, psychotherapy, trauma-informed care and treatment of co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions.

James works with individuals experiencing a range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, eating disorders, substance use disorders, dementia, and cognitive or neurological concerns.

He takes a collaborative, patient-centered approach to psychiatric care, considering each person's symptoms, medical history, life experiences and treatment goals when developing treatment recommendations. James is committed to creating a respectful, supportive and judgment-free environment where patients and families feel heard, understood and actively involved in care.
James provides in-person psychiatric care in Northbrook and Chicago, with telehealth appointments available throughout Illinois.
